Lladro Elephants
Lladro elephants
are one of the most popular porcelain figurines
that follow the animal theme. The company prides itself in
providing beautiful pieces of figurines that depict the beauty
of nature and can be availed at a relatively low price. Along
with other favored animals such as the wise owl, the frog and
the tortoise, the elephant is regarded to bring a dose of good
luck as it symbolizes fertility and the never fading promise of
love and companionship. The process of creating Lladro elephants is similar to all the fine pieces in the collection and
is a result of a painfully laborious artistic process. The
initial sketch of the design must be pre-approved by the
Creativity Committee at Lladro before the actual figurine is
drawn in clay. It is here that the various details of the design
is exposed and is soon rendered in plaster to produce the first
mold. This plaster mold will serve as the main mold for the
approved figure.
Midsized Lladro elephants can comprise of 15 to 20 molds to
further boost the accuracy and beauty of the intricate details.
Each encompassing curve should further benefit the overall
design theme of the figurine. Complicated designs will usually
require more than 300 molds to complete the design. It is here
that the art of perfecting the look of the figurine is at the
highest peak. The separate pieces are joined together by liquid
porcelain paste to create the new figurine. After reconstructing
the Lladro elephant, the figurine is further decorated by
details that truly make it lifelike and unique. The figurine can
either be finished or painted depending on the type of look that
the artist is after. The figurine is then heat treated to a kiln
that reaches temperatures as high as 1300 degrees centigrade. It
is though this process that the porcelain reveals the true
beauty that is inherent within.
